Impact of mild behavioral impairment on longitudinal changes in cognitive performance

Abstract Background Recent research has developed a better appreciation for non‐cognitive factors, such as neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS), early indicators dementia. This led to the development of criteria mild behavioral impairment (MBI), or late‐life onset NPS. MBI been associated with unique cognitive phenotype, but on longitudinal changes is limited. The goal this study examine if influences in abilities among older adults who are cognitively healthy (CH) have (MCI). Method Secondary data analysis participants (n=17,291) from National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center were CH (n=11,771) diagnosed MCI (n=5,520). Almost 25% sample met operationalized diagnostic (n=4,274). Cognitive performance was evaluated using tasks attention, episodic memory, executive function, language, visuospatial ability, and processing speed. Results Cross‐sectionally, persons performed worse speed compared people without MBI. There no significant interactions present between any tasks.
